The Broken Spoke is pleased to announce we are now a gold level supplier of Brooks Saddles. The benefits? Outrageously good prices on Brooks saddles, in 9 varieties staring at $120 for the B17. We've even got the matching bar tape. The last saddle you'll ever buy.
This Friday (tomorrow) will be the final Friday Night Ride by the Broken Spoke for the summer. Owners Mike and Tomiko will be visiting family and friends in the UK soon and will look at picking up the rides again when they get back around the end of August.
The ride will leave from the shop at 5:30pm sharp. Anyone needing repairs or a tune-up should come in early to avoid missing out on the ride. Due to an injury Mike may not be able to lead the Advanced ride and will be looking to regulars to include newcomers and facilitate a safe enjoyable ride for everyone.
Please note that the shop will remain open for business as usual in the capable hands of Jordan and the rest of the staff. Stop in for bike repairs, accessories, coffee, snacks and lots more.
After some delightful rest and relaxation last weekend, The Broken Spoke is ready to get back in the saddle for our regular Friday Night Rides.
We will be leaving from the shop (420 Fitzgerald Ave.) at 5:30pm sharp tomorrow. Rides typically last an hour and depending on numbers we may have up to three levels:
Hope to see you there.
Hello Friends and Friday Night Ride regulars,
The Broken Spoke will be closed for the long weekend, so we are cancelling our regular Friday Night Ride for this week.
We apologise for the late notice and any inconvenience this may cause. We are looking forward to spending some time with family and friends over the next few days and hope you all get to do the same.
We'll be back on the road next week...
All those Broken Spoke fans who have caught owner Mike Collins on one of his good days may recognise some of his trademark moves from this delightful GIF we recently acquired.
Feel free to ask him to repeat one of his moves for you on this week's Friday Night Ride, leaving from the shop at 5:30 pm sharp as per usual. There will be different rides for different levels, so everyone is welcome to join. Come early if you need any repairs done to your bike.
Stick around Downtown Courtenay after the ride to take in some of the sights and sounds of Elevate the Arts - a local cultural festival that, well, elevates the arts. Learn more on their website at: www.elevatethearts.com
The Broken Spoke will be hosting our annual end of "Bike to Work Week" BBQ this Friday, starting at 4:00pm, with our regular Friday Night Group Ride commencing at 5:30. The ride features 3 different levels, so everyone is welcome. (Remember to stop by early if you need a tune-up or any other work done on your bike before the ride.)

The BBQ will feature meat and other treats from The Butcher's Block, as well as a full vegetarian option for those so inclined. Attendance is by donation, with the proceeds going towards the Pedestrian Bike Bridge Fund. We've got Shane Philip confirmed as the musical entertainment and we hope to also have the City of Courtenay's new 25 year transportation plan on hand for comments. *
*The City of Courtenay and consultants Morrison Hershfield Ltd. are developing a new Transportation and Land Use Master Plan to guide infrastructure and services in the City over the next 20 years and beyond.
The plan will look at the bigger picture of how to accommodate the changing needs of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles within Courtenay, while addressing land use and community development as the city grows. Population and employment trends, and their impact on travel demand, will be incorporated into the results. The plan’s recommendations will help the City prioritize improvements to transportation infrastructure and provide clear direction to the development community.
The City is looking for input from residents. Online Survey:

We know it is May Long Weekend, and lots of our regular riders may be away spending time with family and friends, but The Broken Spoke will still have a Friday Night Bike Ride tomorrow.
As per usual we hope everyone wanting to join the ride will be at the shop by 5:15pm so as to leave at 5:30pm sharp.
If you need repairs or upgrades done to your bicycle, make sure to come out early.
Also, if we find that there are too few riders to make separate groups, we will combine everyone into a single group and cater to the needs of the least experienced among the group.
Looking forward to seeing some of you tomorrow evening!
